How do you keep your hands from beating the club face to the ball?

I have a pretty good golf swing, but I often slice because my hands are beating the club face to the ball. I know the problem is related to rolling my wrists, but I have a hard time making myself roll my wrists. Any tips on training yourself to do this?

When you make the back swing the weight of the club and the arc of the swing will cause the wrists to break at the top. Hold this wrist position all the way through your down swing and body turn to a moment before impact at which time you snap your wrists through to the finish. Emulate the PGA tour players’ swings.

look into the Greg Norman’s Secret if you can still find it… it helps hold the wrist flex through the swing

The club face is squared by the rotation of your body and not by flipping the wrists. To stop your swing near the bottom in order to flip your wrists over would simply produce a little pop up. To square the club at the bottom work on a nice turn back and when you start the club down allow yourself to unwind and you’ll soon find that you are developing a powerful swing and the nasty slice will be a thing of the past. Hold the club out in front of you and turn back and then turn through and you’ll see that by turning back and through the club appears to turn over at the mid way point. A few baseball style swings will get you the feeling that you need.

Maybe you’re not keeping your head behind the ball at impact that causes the slice. What you describe is a block release, which is totally fine. You just need to keep your body turning while keeping your head behind the ball.

But to answer your question on how to train yourself to roll the wrists at impact is to:
    1) Take half swings first
    2) Make your club point its toe up half way back
    3) Then on the downswing and half way follow through, make the club point its toe up again
    4) Keep doing this and you will see on your follow through that your right wrist is on top of your left wrist which is a sign that you’re closing the club face through impact

Work on getting your weight to the left side on the follow through. A good weight transfer will help promote a good release of the clubface during the transition from the backswing to the downswing. You should feel as if you are reaching toward the target with your right hand on the follow through. Im assuming you are right handed.

sorry to disagree but you are not slicing because your hands are beating the club to the ball. Your hands should always be in front of the ball when you make contact. You are slicing because the club face is open when you hit the ball. This can be caused by starting the swing with your shoulders instead of your hips. This causes the club to be open at contact. The left wrist(for right handers) should be flat and the back of the hand should be facing the target. The hands should be approximately even with the left thigh as you make contact. This compresses the ball against the turf and keeps you from trying to lift the ball. this is the correct answer hope it helps.
