What are the best golf courses to play in the Atlanta area?

Friday, May 29th, 2009
biffman asked:

I’m a huge golfer and am visiting Atlanta to attend the final four in late march and early April of this year. I want to golf a couple of the best courses in the area. Price is no concern. Obviously it would be great to golf Augusta National but that is most likely impossible as it is a very private club. I would appreciate any suggestions, names, web sites, or links to the best courses in the area. Thank you for your time.

golf - help?

john.kersell asked:

hi, i’m pretty new to golf but i’m improving day by day but there is one thing that lets me down…. consistancy. When i strike the ball wether it’s with an iron or a driver i hit 1 in 10 a lovely straight distance shot. I tend to either slice or hook, or often just hit it straight along the ground. Two things i need help on…. I think i try to put too much power into shots, so im wondering if i just concentrate on my swing and hit the ball correct will the club use it power to strike the ball well?. Also how do you get nice height and distance on a shot?

thanks

Ladies - Start Playing Golf With Your Spouse

Thursday, May 28th, 2009
Ladies, you have been asked to start playing golf with your spouse. The good news is that this could be his quiet way to tell you that he wants to spend more time with you. In addition, with men being men, they would like to teach you themselves how to play the game so they feel like they are important to you. This is a slippery slope as your spouse is probably not qualified to give you proper golf instruction or information.

I have started many ladies clinics with the statement “forget everything your husbands have ever told you about the golf swing.” I then watch as many of the ladies. faces and shoulders relax and we all get a good chuckle out of it.

Before you make the decision to start golf, you may have some questions about the game. It is important that you arm yourself with good information. Below, we will give you the information to get you started.

If you are not sure if you want to start golf: Suggest to your spouse that you would like to go and ride (or walk for the exercise) nine-holes of golf with your spouse. This will give you a taste of what the game is about before you start golf. It is okay if your favorite part is not the golf itself. It might be the wildlife that you find or my spouse.s favorite to look at the big houses! It got her to start golf.

If you decide that you do want to play, GET LESSONS FROM A GOLF PROFESSIONAL: The Golf Professional will give you the fundamentals that will be the foundation of your golf swing. Make sure the lesson series includes time on the putting green and with the short game, chipping and pitching.

You do not need a full set of clubs to start: Golf manufactures are more and more are selling ladies golf clubs by themselves and not in traditional sets, a three iron through pitching wedge. I would suggest a 3-wood, 6, 8, pitching wedge, sand wedge and putter. You do not always need to buy the top of the line. There are many products that are quality that are less expensive with ladies golf equipment.

You do not have to play 18-holes: As you get started, do not feel like you need to play every hole or use the tee markers. What do I mean? If you get tired after a couple holes, do not play a hole or two. Remember this is to be fun. In the same token, as you first start to play use the 100 yard marker and play the hole form there. Again, this is to be fun not frustrating!

Training Aids and Golf Instruction Books Specific to Ladies Golf: Your local golf professional should be able to give you info on which training aids or golf instruction books would help you the most or many online golf shops carry quality products specific to ladies golf help you with your golf game.

Rules of Golf: There are many books that are not as dry as the Rules of Golf. This is also a great conversation piece during your round because a ruling will always come up. This will also get you familiar with the terminology used with the game.

A Reputable Golf School Leads to a Reputable Career

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
Whenever the term golf school is mentioned, many assume it is a place where everyone simply plays golf all day. However, such an institution is the essential foundation for starting a long lasting career in golf. Accredited two year curriculums allow graduates to walk away with a degree in golf course management or even golf instruction.

Accredited curriculums mean that a program has been put together by certified golf professionals and then offered up for approval by legitimate state and federal agencies. Once this is done, a school has the approval to start taking on students. Accredited degrees are those that will be recognized by employers as valid and legitimate.

A love of golf is no longer enough to land a career in the field and rarely does any type of company hire individuals off the street to do a job anymore. A prospective employee who has spent time in the classroom learning the ins and outs of golf course management will have the skills to help take a golf business in the right direction. It is an accredited degree under one’s arm that makes it much easier to walk into a long term golf related occupation.

At any rate, golfers are well known for being quite passionate about their favorite sport and that enthusiasm is very quick to carry over into their career. It is suspected that this is a top reason why the sport of golf has mushroomed into a multimillion dollar industry. Rather than take a course in mere management or instruction, individuals can now go to schools that specialize in the area of golf.

It is specialized knowledge that teaches students how to adeptly work with the clientele that is the golfing community. The neat manicured lawns, challenging courses and attention to detail are but a mere physical manifestation of the standard of excellence that is the backbone of the golfing industry. An education in golf helps to maintain the standard and keep it running smoothly and efficiently.

It is not uncommon for an individual to opt for golf school with visions of spending their education out on the course. While some of this may be true, many do not realize the gravity of earning a golf school degree. Students should expect to spend time in the classroom, in computer labs and the library as well.

Getting an education for a golf career is just like going to any other school. Students will find themselves learning the skills they need for their field of study in addition to taking on internships at local golf courses. Those individuals interested in becoming golf instructors are likely to help create and plan golf clinics for every age of player.

Those interested in attending such a venue will be pleased to find financial aid is available to qualifying students as is housing and career planning assistance. Along with finding nearby openings, job placement services can help graduates learn to create a résumé that will be appealing to prospective employers. Some golf schools even offer class rings.

Another bonus of attending these types of schools is the beautiful locations in which they are found. Golf schools are commonly located in states where the weather is conducive to the year round play of the sport. States such as Florida, California and Arizona are often considered prime spots for golf courses and schools.

Once an individual is set to attend golf school, he or she can look forward to having a totally unique learning experience. Completion of the program leads to the beginning of a wonderful career that will be admired by many.

Super Sweet Golf Swing Tips That Work

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009
When you’re playing golf badly it really isn’t a lot of fun. It takes a great deal of skill, mental fortitude and perseverance to excel at golf. You may receive all the best golf tips in the world, take countless lessons, get superior instruction and still may not be able to gain consistency.

If you’ve hit with your golf driver perfectly once, you can do it every time; the subconscious mind knows the correct number and sequence of muscle contractions and nerve impulses needed, called muscle memory. Visualize where you would like the ball to land, as you swing. It’s been proven that thinking positively about bettering your golf game will benefit you more than playing to compete with your partners and trying to win for winnings sake.

Before you swing, make sure you’re relaxed; contract all your muscles tightly for a moment and then relax them. It’s difficult for a golfer to practice hitting shots longer than short pitch shots unless one pays to play golf or pays to practice at a driving range or indoor golf training facility. As the body matures, the ability to rotate the upper torso is affected by age, and the hand action can also slow down requiring a slightly stronger grip.

One of the problems that most inexperienced golfers share is they think too much about their swing. Pick out a spot on the course, preferably the green of the fairway, and concentrate on hitting the ball to that spot. Use the muscles in your legs and trunk when you swing.

Putts and short chips are ideally played without much movement of the body, but most other golf shots are played using variants of the full golf swing. When you swing if you have problems with your left knee buckling, imagine you’re holding a soccer ball between your knees. Try not to grip the club too tightly.

Accomplished golfers purposely use sidespin to steer their ball around obstacles or towards the safe side of fairways and greens. Use the basic ‘hitchhiker’ position when you’re working on your backswing.

Turn to golf exercise and techniques if you want strength and power. To prevent injury and improve swing speed and distance requires your body to be both strong and flexible. The golf swing is mostly rotational so it makes sense to concentrate on your turning ability as it relates to range of motion and speed.

If you’re a golfing novice just starting out, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. Golf swing aids come in all shapes and sizes including apparel type accessories to correct alignment or a golf club add-on accessory to monitor your swing. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting out, pick just one swing aid and go to work on it.

Before buying any golf swing aid, check with an expert to get an idea of what problem you need to work on first; backlift of golf swing, momentum of downward thrust or stance for example. In any case, stick to just one aid at a time; don’t load up on them. You can find aids that will help you with your wrist and arm position.

Be careful about the claims on TV commercials and magazine ads; seek expert advice before you buy because they may not live up to their claims. There are a wide range of golf swing aids on the market today to help the beginning and advanced golfer.

There are aids that act as driving range simulators. If you’re looking for an aid to improve your stance they’re not hard to find.

Try to concentrate on one golf swing weakness at time. Having a plan and working on specific aspects of the swing or game should be your goal. When you play a round of golf, concentrate on improving your golf swing, putting or something specific that day; have a plan in mind.

How To Get A Perfect Golf Swing Every Time

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009
Golf is a difficult game to master and most golfers don’t have the time it takes to practice, practice, and practice to significantly improve. When you’re playing golf badly it isn’t a lot of fun. Even the guys who play golf for a living and get the best golf instruction in the world still struggle to improve their golf; and they practice each and every day!

Concentrate totally on your game and you’ll get the best score. The positive energy you send out will influence your game, just as negative thinking and therefore negative energy will affect it also. Golf requires tough mental fitness as well as physical fitness and is often overlooked.

Use the basic ‘hitchhiker’ position when you’re working on your backswing. Ask your golf pro to evaluate your posture while swinging. One of the problems that most inexperienced golfers share is they think too much about their swing.

Before you swing, make sure you’re relaxed; contract all your muscles tightly for a moment and then relax them. As the body matures, the ability to rotate the upper torso is affected by age, and the hand action can also slow down requiring a slightly stronger grip. Try not to grip the club too tightly.

Putting can become a nightmare and a condition called the ‘yips’ has affected not only amateurs but professionals as well; get expert advice and consider a golf swing aid. Putts and short chips are ideally played without much movement of the body, but most other golf shots are played using variants of the full golf swing.

At the end of a swing, the weight has shifted almost entirely to the left foot, the body is fully turned to the left and the hands are above the left shoulder with the club hanging down over the players’ back.

Swing slowly and steadily using a nice rhythm. At the end of a backswing the hands are above the right shoulder, with the golf club pointing more or less in the intended direction of ball flight.

Workouts with straight crunches won’t improve your swing or driving distance; concentrate on weighted rotational exercises instead. Using a weighted club, make rotational golf swings to improve your power. Once you understand that you can change your swing by using a simple technique, you’ll never underestimate golf fitness again.

Golf swing aids come in all shapes and sizes including apparel type accessories to correct alignment or a golf club add-on accessory to monitor your swing. There are golf swing aids that act as driving range simulators. Golf aids are often for sale at your pro shop or local golf shop.

Most of all don’t waste your money on a golf swing aid you don’t need or will never use. Sporting goods stores have golf aids to improve your game. Look for golf swing aids at your local golf course.

Golf magazines often review the newest golf swing aids and are reviewed by golfers, making it easy to choose the right one for you. Overall, investing in golf swing aids will greatly improve your golf swing and your golf game. If you’re looking for an aid to improve your stance they’re not hard to find.

Before buying any golf swing aid, check with an expert to get an idea of what problem you need to work on first; backlift of golf swing, momentum of downward thrust or stance for example. In any case, stick to just one golf swing aid at a time; don’t load up on them.

If you’ve hit with your golf driver perfectly once, you can do it every time. There are a lot of places to get golf swing tips, golf game tips and golf instruction so when you do have time to hit the course, you’ll have a plan in mind. Having a plan and working on specific aspects of the swing or game should be your goal.

Golf Swing Tips To Lower Your Score

Friday, May 22nd, 2009
In golf your swing is just about everything. If you find that your long golf shots are not landing anywhere near the target, your swing is most likely the major culprit, and so here are some golf swing tips that can help you play your best.

* Make sure that you have a rock solid foundation for your swing. To improve your body foundation throughout your swing, try hitting a series of balls with your feet only about six inches apart. This may feel really strange at first, but before long you will start to develop a consistent tempo throughout the swing that allows solid ball contact. And when you start hitting the ball again from your normal stance, you will most likely carry along that solid foundation with you.

* Good golf players hit through the ball and not just at it instead. This promotes a powerful extension that ensures solid contact with the ball. In order to get the feel for this kind of contact, place another golf tee about 6-8 inches in front of your practice ball, and then try to hit not only the ball but also the tee out in front. When you can do both, you are powering through the ball correctly.

* One of the enemies of a smooth swing is swinging too fast, and it is a common problem for lots of golfers. You want a smooth, easy tempo to the swing, so when you draw the club back, imagine in your mind a brief pause at the top just before your downswing, and then consciously think of slowing the swing down. This has the effect of putting a nice rhythm in the swing instead of just a choppy motion.

* Its imperative to avoid moving your body back and forth as you progress through the swing. To counteract this, many pros envision themselves as being inside a barrel as they swing. A barrel would not allow you to sway back and forth, it would only allow you to rotate on its same axis, and that is the proper feel to develop as you go through your backswing.

* A good swing also has a low and slow takeaway from the address of the ball in your stance. To get the feel for this kind of takeaway, place a ball immediately behind your clubhead as you address the ball. When you start the swing try to roll that ball slowly back past your right foot with the back of your clubhead as you draw the club back. Doing this several times will help you get the feel for the long slow takeaway that is critical to beginning a good golf swing.

These few tips can help dramatically improve your golf score if you practice them regularly and get the right motions programmed into your body. When they are repeated over and over again your body muscles remember the motion even when you are no longer practicing the drill and they will help you put together a sweet, powerful swing.
